Planning of the Gatewood community began in the early 1970's with a vision to create an upscale neighborhood of outstanding quality, and unequaled excellence.
Construction of the main entrance and roads began in July 1973. In October 1973, the Property Owners Association was established and chartered with maintaining the value of the amenities and common properties under protective covenants and restrictions. The clubhouse and swimming pool were completed in 1975. Shortly thereafter 4 of the Racquet Clubs 12 tennis courts were completed. Four tennis courts were added in 1976 and four completed in 1978.
The first home was completed in December 1978. In the early stages of Gatewood an Equestrian Boarding and Training Center for members was built. Due to dwindling demand the center was closed and transformed into common property. The community was developed in five phases and undeveloped property is available for future growth. The transfer of all common properties from Town and Country to the Gatewood Property Owners Association was completed in October 1997.
